A long, long time ago, in a faraway place, there lived the Moon and a great serpent.
One night, the Moon was in the sky, shining very brightly. The Great Serpent, who lived on the ground, looked up and saw the Moon. The Serpent thought, "How beautiful the Moon is! I wonder if I can reach it."
So, the Great Serpent started climbing up a very tall mountain. She climbed and climbed, stretching as much as she could, but the Moon was very, very far away. The Serpent decided she would not give up.
"Moon, I want to play with you!" said the Great Serpent.
The Moon, who was very wise and kind, replied, "Dear Serpent, I am here to light up the night. Why don't we play from where we are?"
But the Great Serpent didn't listen. She wanted to touch the Moon. So she kept stretching and stretching, until, all of a sudden, she caught the Moon with her tail.
The Moon got a little scared and said, "Oh, Serpent, please let me go! You can't take me with you."
The Great Serpent, very excited, started wrapping around the Moon. But soon she realized something was wrong. The night became dark and all the animals started complaining.
"Where is the light?" asked the owl.
"I can't see anything," said the rabbit.
